Erasmus+ Invited Expert: KA1, Training for All School Members

Erasmus+ KA1 (Key Action 1) covers a wide range of activities, such as job shadowing, professional development courses for staff, and individual and group mobility for pupils. It also includes the option of inviting an expert to conduct training on a specific topic related to your project goals for all school members.

The Erasmus+ programme supports an activity called “Invited Expert.” An invited expert can be a teacher trainer, an education specialist, or a specialist in a particular field who comes to your institution to conduct training on a topic connected to your project goals. This creates an excellent opportunity for all members of your school to benefit from a training activity at your own organization.

Sometimes some members of your school may not be eager to travel or may be reluctant to use a foreign language in an international environment. There could be various reasons why some colleagues might be unable to receive training in another location outside their own country or participate in professional development mobility in another EU Member State or associated country. Inviting an expert allows everyone to benefit from international training, especially when it is tailor-made and designed to perfectly fit the needs of your institution.

At the same time, this presents a wonderful opportunity for school members to connect through project-based learning, collaborative activities, and teamwork. This is a true team-building activity with an international element, as the invited expert must come from another country.

How Does the “Invited Expert” Activity Work?

  • Choose an Expert to Invite: Select an expert from another EU Member State or associated country who aligns with your school’s specific needs and goals. Platform21 experts are eager to share their expertise, knowledge, and experience with your school or organisation.
  • Invite an Expert to Your School: Send us an email to learn more, or set up a Zoom meeting with us to provide information about your school, project needs, the number of staff, and/or language requirements.
  • Tailor-Made Programme: Collaborate with the invited expert to design a unique learning programme that addresses your school’s challenges and objectives. The expert will need details about the training activity, such as the number of teachers and staff members who will participate, their level of English, and their roles at your organization. Once this information is received, the expert will create a special training programme specifically designed to meet your organization’s needs.
  • Learning Agreement: To ensure that the course covers topics relevant to your organization’s project goals, a learning agreement is signed between the invited expert and your organization.
  • Travel Arrangements and Accommodation: The invited expert makes all travel and accommodation arrangements her/himself unless otherwise agreed upon with the host organization.
  • On-Site Training: The expert arrives at your institution to deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions involving all teachers and staff members.
  • Fully Funded by Erasmus+: All costs, including travel, accommodation, and training materials, are covered by your Erasmus+ grant.

Why is Inviting an Expert Great for Your School?

  • Professional Staff Development and Education: Every staff member benefits from a specially designed course aimed at enhancing skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Team Building: Strengthen your school’s sense of community and teamwork through shared, immersive learning experiences.
  • Holistic Learning Approach: The training incorporates innovative teaching methods, including project-based learning, digital tools, and interactive, hands-on activities like games and challenges, ensuring an engaging and effective experience.
  • Internationalization: By inviting an Erasmus+ expert, your school gains a global perspective and an international learning environment.

Who Can Be an Invited Expert?

Experts from any EU Member State or third country associated with the Erasmus+ Programme can provide relevant expertise and training. Invited experts can stay at your school for no less than 2 and no more than 60 days. Schools can invite trainers, teachers, policy experts, or other qualified professionals from abroad to help improve teaching and learning at the receiving school. These experts might provide training to school staff, demonstrate innovative teaching and learning approaches, implement new teaching methods, or help transfer examples of best practice in organization and management. Check the list of our experts and the course topics they cover here.

Where Does the Training by an Invited Expert Take Place?

The training must take place at the beneficiary organization, including any consortium members. Therefore, the training occurs at your own institution.

Who Creates the Materials and Learning Programme for an Invited Expert?

Experts from our team first learn about the specific goals of your project and the topics that should be covered. Then, in agreement with your organization’s school coordinators and/or school leaders, they create a tailor-made learning programme. All learning outcomes must be agreed upon with the expert beforehand and documented by the beneficiary organization after completion.
